And either is the value of antiques. The kids aren’t buying them and just like everything else that is supply and demand – the supply is building and the demand is not there – and then with the ease of searching for that piece online……..Well, times are a-changing. It used to be if you had a collection of something and were adding to it and wandered into a antique store and found it – well, you were willing to pay high dollars for it because who knew when you would find another? But today…..click…..you’re there and usually can find dozens. So as an estate liquidator -I have to try to put a fair value on items but with the realization that the antiques and collectible values have gone way down. Each time we do an estate year I am finding something and saying “Oh-that would have been worth hundreds 20 years ago and today maybe $50!” My crew hears me mumbling this each time we set up a sale. Hummels, LLadros, and so many top porcelain pieces have tumbled in value. Oh sure, the rare Roadshow finds are still worth a great deal but they are rare finds. I’m talking about the items people paid hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars for have gone crashing down in value.

But that’s why you must always buy what you love – so that if it does not maintain its value – it will still maintain its beauty to you.

Moving Slowly To The Store

Today we used different moving guys and it took 9 hours to move furniture from the estate sale house to the store. 9 hours! Really-it was 5 airmoires, 2 marble top dressers, several marble top smaller pieces, 20 boxes, a wooden horse, 2 tables & chairs – and a few things I apparently forgot. 9 hours. Then the put a mirror shelf top on a wood trunk to place it on the dresser. Guy 1 says to Guy 2 – now hold the back of the mirror cuz it tilts and Guy 2 say ok – and doesn’t hold the back of the mirror as they slide it across the wooden trunk. Did no one see it was wood. Does wood not scratch? Am I paying you guys to move this stuff? Everyone wants to make great money but no real pride put in at all. And excuses all day long – it took so long ……….and I am so tired.
